David Halberstein is special counsel in the Real Estate, Energy, Land Use & Environmental Practice Group in the firm's New York office.
Areas of Practice
David represents clients in commercial real estate transactions, leveraging his experience on all sides of the table to deliver customized strategies to suit their needs. His practice focuses on the acquisition, development, disposition, financing, and leasing of commercial properties across all asset classes nationwide. He also serves as outside counsel to family offices, managing the legal aspects of their real estate ventures.
David works with a broad range of clients, including owners, developers, investors, net lease providers, private equity funds, financial institutions, and retailers.
Additionally, David advises on corporate transactions involving real estate, negotiating membership interest, asset and stock purchase agreements, as well as shareholder and joint venture agreements.

- Represented a financial institution, as tenant, in leasing over 1,200,000 square feet of space in a first class building in New York City for its North American headquarters
- Represented a net lease provider in transactions across over 30 states across multiple asset classes, including manufacturing facilities, funeral homes, veterinary clinics, and retail locations representing $100,000,000’s of investments
- Represented an institutional client in acquisitions and ancillary financings of multifamily communities across the United States totaling over $750,000,000, including a $136,000,000 purchase of a 394-unit waterfront apartment project
- Represented a real estate investment firm in sales and acquisitions of office, retail and industrial properties totaling over $500,000,000, including a $73,750,000 purchase of a 280,000 square feet Class A office park
- Represented a real estate investment firm in acquisitions and ancillary financings of hospitality properties nationwide totaling over $200,000,000, including a $33,000,000 joint venture purchase of a hotel in California
- Represented a publicly traded REIT in refinancing 41 self-storage facilities in 17 states for $578,000,000
- Represented a public pension fund in refinancing 8 multifamily apartment projects in 5 states for $215,000,000
- Represented a lender in financing of a mixed-use apartment complex in New York for $225,000,000
- Represented a national office developer in the sale of two Class A office towers in Houston, Texas for over $200,000,000
- Represented a media company, as tenant, in leasing over 300,000 square feet of space in a first class building in New York City for its North American headquarters
- Represented landlords as leasing counsel for their New York City office and retail portfolios
