John Doyle is an associate in the Business Trial Practice Group in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. 

Areas of Practice

John is a seasoned litigation attorney with extensive experience in state and federal courts across the country. John represents clients in a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract and business disputes, defamation, insurance coverage disputes, business-related torts, and others. John advises clients through all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation investigation and dispute resolution, arbitration, motion practice, conducting discovery, mediation, trial, and appeal.

John is a former federal prosecutor and civil litigation attorney in the United States Army where he was responsible for federal civil litigation, criminal litigation, and regulatory investigations. Immediately prior to entering private practice John was a senior litigation attorney and branch chief at the Department of the Army’s Litigation Division where he was responsible for defending the United States Army and its senior leaders in high-stakes litigation in federal district and appellate courts throughout the United States. With more than 19 years of experience in both private and governmental practice, John has provided strategic advice and legal counsel to senior business executives, officers, and boards of directors, and the Department of Defense’s most senior leaders. He successfully led teams domestically and abroad, concerning a wide array of legal competencies ranging from the defense of complex, multimillion‐dollar class action lawsuits, to carrying out anti‐terrorism and humanitarian assistance operations overseas.

John is a dedicated pro bono practitioner, with a focus on aiding veterans and their families, as well as veteran non-profit organizations.

John is a decorated combat veteran with more than 19 years of experience in criminal and civil litigation, including managing complex trials, investigations, and national security and international law. John maintains a TopSecret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance.

  • Represented individual in JAMS arbitration and the Southern District of New York regarding dispute over stock purchase agreement.

  • Represented Intervenors – Appellees before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (on brief) concerning Equal Protection challenges to admission requirements in New York City’s Specialized High Schools.

  • Represented partnership member in breach of contract and fraud claims against an individual in the U.S. District Court of Maryland.

  • Represented individual in successful appeal before the Appellate Division, First Judicial Department of New York reinstating the case and numerous claims previously dismissed by the trial court.

  • Represented the Wind-Down Debtors in lawsuit stemming from claims of fraudulent transfer, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment in New Jersey Superior Court.

  • Represented the United States on brief and at oral argument before the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii against a constitutional and disability discrimination challenge to educational institution authority resulting in the denial of the plaintiff’s request for injunctive relief and dismissal of the case.
  • Represented the U.S. Army at oral argument before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia at an enforcement hearing concerning compliance with court-ordered immigration and naturalization processing requirements resulting in the court’s denial of plaintiffs’ Motion to Enforce and their requests for additional remedies and sanctions.
  • Lead Department of Defense and Army attorney responsible for defending more than 20 civil suits, including preliminary injunction hearings, filed across 15 United States District courts challenging the Secretary of Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
  • Lead Department of Defense and Army attorney a putative class action in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, alleging national origin discrimination, successfully carrying out discovery resulting in the plaintiffs’ voluntary dismissal of the case.

  • Branch chief of a civil litigation team responsible for defending the United States Army and its senior leaders in more than 100 federal lawsuits, including 12 class actions, seeking compensation and benefits in excess of $500 Million.

  • Chief of a criminal division that successfully carried out more than 80 felony-level prosecutions.

  • Successfully prosecuted more than 20 felony trials
  • Provided investigative oversight, review, and strategic guidance for over one hundred highly sensitive investigations conducted for a deployed Afghanistan headquarters involving combat engagements, service member deaths, international incidents, and felony criminal misconduct.
