Julie Marion is a partner in the Tax Practice Group in the firm's Chicago office.
Areas of Practice
Julie’s practice is focused on advising on federal partnership taxation, structuring and transactional matters, with an emphasis on the energy/power and real estate sectors, including tax credit partnerships and other tax incentivized structures, as well as issues of special interest to the power and utilities industry. Julie has extensive experience in the renewable/alternative energy sector and regularly advises and assists clients with the acquisition, development, financing, and disposition of renewable/alternative energy investments, including:
- Front-end project financing and monetization of federal tax credits through tax equity finance structures and transferability/direct pay elections under the Inflation Reduction Act;
- Private equity and infrastructure fund investments in renewable/alternative energy sponsors and acquisitions of operating portfolios; and
- General investment life-cycle decisions, including devco/opco structures, partial sell-downs of sponsor interests, construction and term loan refinancings, development platform acquisitions and divestitures, and public and private “yieldco” planning.
Julie is an active member of the professional tax community and frequent speaker on partnership tax topics. She chairs the Special Partnership Issues Subcommittee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section’s Partnerships & LLC Committee. Julie is a past board member of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, a civil legal aid provider to Chicago’s low-income community, and the Chicago chapter of the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law.
