Overview
Josh Tran is an associate in the Entertainment, Technology, and Media Practice Group in the firm's Century City office.
Areas of Practice
Josh’s practice encompasses all aspects of entertainment transactions, which include drafting and negotiating agreements related to the development, production, acquisition, and distribution of film and television productions. At Sheppard Mullin, Josh currently supports Amazon MGM Studios on its film and scripted television projects, negotiating talent and rights agreements and conducting chain-of-title research.
Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Josh worked in Business Affairs at Apple TV+. There, his work focused on negotiating above-the-line talent agreements, license agreements, and theatrical distribution agreements for Apple’s feature films, while also evaluating financing and distribution strategy. Notable films that Josh assisted with include Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-nominated film, Killers of the Flower Moon, Wolfs, and the upcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt.
At Apple, Josh also integrated his unique platform in the entertainment industry with his commitment to uplifting his community by serving as a Co-Chair for Apple’s diversity network association for Asian Pacific Islander-identifying employees. He hosted a variety of heritage activations and intimate moderated conversations with Asian American filmmakers, musicians, and creatives to spotlight their work and amplify AAPI voices in mainstream media. Josh also has several years of litigation experience, which gives him a unique advantage to identifying risks and mitigating conflict.
Josh received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he served as Chief Diversity Officer of the UCLA Law Review, Managing Editor of the Asian Pacific American Law Journal, and Admissions Chair for the Asian Pacific Islander Law Students Association (APILSA).
Josh speaks fluent Vietnamese and in his free time enjoys exploring new restaurants around Los Angeles, visiting art museums, and playing tennis. He’s also formerly competed in collegiate dance.
