What sanctions can the UK and the West impose on Russia?
London Office Managing Partner Reid Whitten spoke with The Times UK regarding western countries imposing banking sanctions against Russia. "There will be an incredible amount of the Russian economy that's frozen from use in the rest of the world. Once [Putin's] oligarch inner circle start having their businesses becoming anathema to western banks there will be serious issues," commented Whitten.
The article further states that another option on the table is an export ban on high technology items. This is a tactic that has been deployed by the US against Huawei, the Chinese multinational, barring its access not only to US-made microchips but also the software they are designed on. Whitten added, "That's been effective against Huawei. It doesn't stop the company from existing but they are in a much weaker position."
