Intellectual Property Partner Hal Milstein Joins Sheppard Mullin Silicon Valley
Harold J. Milstein has joined the Silicon Valley office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property practice group. Milstein was most recently a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Heller Ehrman.
Milstein's practice emphasizes trademark counseling and prosecution services, particularly in the life sciences and high technology industries. Prior to private practice, he spent a decade in-house as trademark counsel for Syntex and Sandoz, where he created and implemented international clearance and filing strategies, provided enforcement and dispute resolution services, managed international trademark litigation, and provided trademark support in transactional matters. Milstein was a registered pharmacist before attending law school, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
"Hal adds significantly to our trademark expertise in life sciences. Additionally, his technology specialization is complementary to our existing strength in this sector, in Silicon Valley and throughout the firm. We continue to grow practices like Life Sciences and IP, and Hal's industry knowledge, coupled with his in-house and law firm experience is of great value to clients," said Guy Halgren, chairman of the firm.
In August, Blaine Templeman joined the firm as an IP partner to head Sheppard Mullin's Biotech Clinical Contracting team. IP partners Steve Hanle and Jennifer Trusso, who specialize in pharmaceutical and medical device patent litigation, joined the firm's Orange County office in July. Corporate partner Eric Klein, whose focus is healthcare and life sciences M&A, joined the firm's Century City office in April. Also in April, IP partner Karen Canaan brought her biotech patent expertise to Sheppard Mullin's Silicon Valley office.
Commented Milstein, "With a strong IP practice group and growing Life Sciences capabilities, Sheppard Mullin offers an excellent platform for my practice. I am also impressed by Sheppard Mullin’s understanding of the needs of Silicon Valley clients and its resources to support them."
Milstein received a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1983 and a B.S., cum laude, from Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy of Long Island University in 1980.
Sheppard Mullin's Intellectual Property practice group includes 60 attorneys firmwide.
