Corporate Partner Kirt Shuldberg Joins Sheppard Mullin San Diego/Del Mar
Kirt W. Shuldberg has joined the San Diego/Del Mar office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's Corporate practice group. Shuldberg most recently practiced in the San Diego and London offices of Heller Ehrman and is the twelfth partner to join Sheppard Mullin this year from that firm.
Shuldberg specializes in corporate and securities law, which includes venture capital, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, strategic collaborations and licensing transactions, general corporate counseling and restructurings. He has represented clients in transactions ranging from start-up financings to large public offerings and M&A transactions. Shuldberg maintains a special focus on the life sciences, medical device and clean technology industries and has counseled companies in such other diverse industries as digital entertainment, software, Internet, telecommunications and wireless technologies. He has extensive experience advising private and public companies with respect to strategic capital-raising transactions and has advised on hundreds of financing transactions.

Shuldberg represents several of California’s most prominent venture capital funds, as well as prominent venture capital funds from Europe and Asia, in their investments in life sciences, clean technology and technology companies. Venture capital funds he has represented include Benchmark Capital, BB Biotech, Enterprise Partners, Forward Ventures, JAFCO Life Sciences, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Mission Ventures, Prism Ventureworks and Technology Partners. Shuldberg's life sciences, medical device and clean technology engagements include companies that operate in the following areas: biofuels, biopharmaceuticals, discovery informatics, drug discovery tools and services, energy storage, genetic research kits, molecular diagnostics, personalized diagnostics, proteomics, resorbable coronary stents, and stem cell research.
Shuldberg received a J.D. from University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1997 and a B.S., magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University in 1992. Prior to entering law school, he was a senior accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick.
Last month, Corporate partners Bob Copeland, Jamie Mercer and Michael Umansky joined Sheppard Mullin in its San Diego offices. In addition to Shuldberg, other former Heller Ehrman partners who have recently joined Sheppard Mullin and specialize in the life sciences sector include IP partners Hal Milstein in Silicon Valley and Blaine Templeman in New York.
