The New York Times Best Seller, is written with an insider’s knowledge about intimate details of the scandal that ended Edwards’ promising political career. David’s representation of Young is in connection with a federal grand jury investigation concerning how Edwards spent campaign and other funds tied to his second Presidential campaign – especially in connection with his mistress and their child. David is thanked in the acknowledgments for helping the “little guy” seek justice, and is referenced later in the text as a “brilliant” and “compassionate” lawyer.
“The Death of American Virtue: Clinton v. Starr” by Ken Gormley
LA Special counsel Mike Emmick worked with the Office of Independent Counsel (OIC) from 1997-2000. Because Gormley’s book came out 10 years after the Clinton-Lewinsky investigation, the author was able to obtain more comments and cooperation from “insiders,” including Mike, than other books. Mike is referenced more than 100 times in the book, mostly in connection with his role as the principal contact with Lewinsky. Mike was part of the team that approached her and requested her cooperation, negotiated for her eventual immunity, handled all of her interviews and grand jury testimony, and was the OIC attorney who first took custody of the legendary blue dress. Mike also helped draft the “Starr Report” sent to Congress and drafted the memorandum that was used for the OIC discussions about whether to indict the President.
