Corporate Partner Jung Son Joins Sheppard Mullin Palo Alto From Technology Crossover Ventures
Jung Yeon Son has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's Corporate practice group, based in the firm's Palo Alto office. Son joins from Technology Crossover Ventures in Palo Alto, where she served as Associate General Counsel. Before that she was VP & Associate General Counsel at Blum Capital Partners in San Francisco, as well as practicing numerous years at Simpson Thacher in New York and Palo Alto.
"Jung is a terrific addition to the firm. Her considerable fund formation, Investment Advisor Act and transactional expertise, including both in-house and private practice experience, coupled with her Silicon Valley and Korean connections, is an excellent fit with us. We continue to grow cornerstone practice groups like Corporate and expand our capabilities to better serve clients. We continue to be focused on growing our Palo Alto office and building on our existing corporate capabilities there," said Guy N. Halgren, chairman of Sheppard Mullin.
"I look forward to returning to private practice and am thrilled to join Sheppard Mullin. I am especially excited to again be practicing with partner and former Simpson Thacher colleague Jason Schendel, as well as my new partners in Palo Alto and throughout the firm. I am impressed with Sheppard Mullin’s expanding and top-notch Corporate practice group, as well as its Korea practice and successful office launch in Seoul," Son commented.
“We are delighted to have Jung onboard. Her extensive fund formation and Investment Advisers Act compliance experience augments our burgeoning Palo Alto corporate practice and complements our transactional capabilities, including our work for private equity firms and fund managers,” said Corporate partner and longtime Silicon Valley Corporate stalwart David R. Lee.
“Jung’s addition to our office is testament to our continued success and growth in Silicon Valley. We have grown from 3 attorneys to 30 attorneys in five short years,” commented Edward V. Anderson, co-managing partner of Sheppard Mullin’s Palo Alto office. “While relatively new to the Silicon Valley, our attorneys trace their roots back to the earliest days of Silicon Valley. We represent both emerging technology and Fortune 500 companies, both locally and throughout the world, with special focus and experience in Asia. We welcome Jung to our experienced team of Silicon Valley veterans.”
Son’s experience includes the structuring of funds (i.e., issues related to CFC, UBTI, ECI and tax exempt and foreign investors, including offshore entities), as well as the successful closing of numerous funds. Her experience also includes fund governance and securities law and regulatory compliance in connection with fund raising and operations. For example at Technology Crossover Ventures, Son handled fund formation work as well as regulatory compliance, both in the U.S. under the Investment Advisers Act and, on a supervisory basis, in the U.K. She also supported the firm’s fund raising efforts. Additionally, Son also has considerable experience in complex M&A and capital markets transactions.
