Chief Operating Officer Ted Tinson Joins Sheppard Mullin

01.03.2014

Ted Tinson has joined Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP as Chief Operating Officer.  Tinson joins from Dentons, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer for, and also carried out many of the COO functions, Dentons’ U.S. and Asia-Pacific regions.  He is based in Sheppard Mullin's Los Angeles office.

Tinson is the highest-ranking non-attorney executive in Sheppard Mullin and responsible for the daily operation of the firm.  He reports to firm chairman Guy Halgren and the firm’s executive committee.  Tinson oversees firm operations across all offices and practice groups, leveraging the firm's knowledge and experience to enhance client service.

Tinson replaces Sheppard Mullin’s executive director Bob Zuber, who is retiring after 17 years with the firm.  The firm has grown from four to fifteen offices and more than quadrupled in headcount to 640 attorneys during Zuber’s tenure.

Halgren commented, "Ted brings a broad range of knowledge and experience, having worked as a financial officer in the healthcare and insurance sectors, and for more than a decade as CFO in the law firm world.  He is a well-rounded thinker with a sharp focus on law firm financial performance.  Ted’s background is an excellent fit for us, as he will oversee the firm’s administrative departments – all of which significantly impact our ability to serve clients efficiently.  He will do an effective job carrying out our goals and helping the firm advance its client service delivery."

"The legal industry is becoming more and more complex as client demands and needs evolve.  I look forward to working with a highly talented team, both within the firm’s administrative departments and throughout the entire Sheppard Mullin system, bringing my strategic outlook, financial skills and hands-on operational expertise to the position," said Tinson.

Tinson earned his MBA from the University of Maine and his undergraduate degree from Colby College.
