Banking and Finance Attorney, Laura Stuart Taylor, Elected to Partnership
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP announced that the firm has re-elevated Laura Stuart Taylor to partner. Taylor was previously a partner with the firm from 1992-1994. For the last nine years, Taylor has worked as a special counsel in the San Diego office, specializing in commercial law, workout and bankruptcy with an emphasis on the representation of lenders holding real or personal property collateral, agricultural lenders and creditors' committees.
"We are extremely pleased to welcome Laura back to the partnership. Throughout her career, Laura has provided first-class legal work and client service while working on a variety of significant and complex bankruptcy matters," said Guy Halgren, Chair of the Executive Committee. He added, "Laura has also maintained her commitment to those in need, earning her several community service and pro bono awards."
Taylor has handled significant matters in all areas of commercial law, workout and bankruptcy. Her experience relating to real property secured lenders is broad ranging and includes large hotels, a not for profit university, real property development in various stages of completion, and income properties such as apartments and office buildings. Her practice is unique in its emphasis on workout and bankruptcy involving agriculture lenders and agricultural real property.
While practicing law from 1994-2003, Taylor devoted a significant amount of time to special education legal matters and pro bono efforts. As a founder of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program's Special Education Project, Taylor remains a frequent volunteer. In recognition of her pro bono efforts, she received the San Diego Bar Association's 1996 Community Service Award, the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program's 1997 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award, and the 1997 State Bar of California's Pro Bono Service Award for District Nine.
