Dr. Yang (Alex) Li is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.
Areas of Practice
Dr. Li advises clients around the world on a wide range of intellectual property matters that involve complex legal and scientific issues. He has particular experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and semiconductor sectors.
Dr. Li’s practice includes developing and managing patent portfolios to leverage and maximize intellectual property protection, and counseling clients regarding patentability, validity, and freedom-to-operate issues. In litigation matters, Dr. Li has represented both emerging companies and multinational corporations in patent and trade secret disputes in U.S. district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). He has also participated in inter partes reviews (IPR) before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO).
In addition to patent prosecution and litigation, Dr. Li’s experience includes performing due diligence evaluations of intellectual property assets and drafting agreements in connection with mergers and acquisitions, investments, licensing opportunities, and business restructuring.
In assisting clients, Dr. Li draws on his significant scientific knowledge and research experience from his graduate studies in chemistry. He has authored a number of peer-reviewed scientific publications on subjects such as synthesis of organofluorine compounds, computational molecular modeling, and quantum dots.
