Sheppard Mullin Continues Strategic Growth in Bay Area
Sheppard Mullin is pleased to announce that partners John H. Booher and Eric A. Newsom have joined the firm’s Palo Alto and San Francisco offices, respectively. Booher joins from Hogan Lovells LLP and Newsom from Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP, where he was co-chair of the Corporate and Finance Practice Group and a member of the Healthcare Division. Since January 2018, Sheppard Mullin has added 19 lateral partners across 6 offices as well as opening a new office in Dallas.

Booher’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic transactions (primarily in the healthcare industry), private equity and emerging growth/venture capital. In addition to healthcare, Booher has significant experience in the aerospace and defense/telecommunications industries, particularly with respect to the satellite sector. Known for his service and dedication to clients, Booher was selected as a BTI Client Service “MVP” in 2017 for having been selected two years in a row (2016-2017) by BTI as an “All-Star Attorney.” Booher received a B.A. from the College of William & Mary and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Newsom focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity investment transactions, securities offerings, complex joint ventures and corporate governance and compliance matters. He has extensive experience representing health plans, academic medical centers and multi-hospital health systems, ambulatory and specialty care providers and physician groups, as well as private equity funds and other institutional healthcare investors, in major healthcare transactions and reorganization efforts. In addition to his healthcare industry experience, Newsom has advised a variety of clients in the technology and food and beverage industries. A significant portion of Newsom’s practice involves advising clients in connection with cross-border transactions, whether engaging foreign counsel to assist domestic clients in managing offshore assets, or representing foreign clients in sales to, or joint ventures with, U.S.-based businesses. Newsom received a B.A. from the University of California, Davis and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
